It's a testiment to my training at the Star Pottery Studio, that i've learned not to become defined by one disapline for the duration of my career but through landing on my feet in a booming studio. I've found the nessecity of what it takes to grow past my initial specialism formed duriong my education and endure my craft into a life long commitment.

 

Functional Pottery is a state of mind. With ceramics you can take a theme and create pieces that forms the essence of what it embodies and within that it’s own voice. Yet with functional pottery you have to ask yourself: what are you creating?, what it is used for?, how will its design effect its use? Then evolve your own voice within that, this is a tough lesson I’ve had to learn these last couple of months, despite this i've begun to create some modern yet satisfyingly simple forms with a hint of the unknown yet zesty glaze testing … not bad for my first step on the road to combining my old experimental ceramics in a new technique.
